Rick Starbuck

Let's go back to 1958/59 when I was at the U of Edinburgh. A friend from those days, Jack Gresham who wrote poetry after retiring from the CIA, is leaving Sunday for Edinburgh and will possibly look you up as he will Jim Haynes when he gets to Paris. I put Jack in touch with Don Mills, another friend from those days whom you may remember. Don reminded him that you painted a watercolor of the view of Edinburgh from the 2nd story of the boarding house we lived in which now hangs in my AZ home. I'm glad things have gone well for you as they have for me.

Hi Richard,
we met probably about 30yrs ago when you came to my office in Dunfermline with Murray and Barbera Grigor - we had a fantastic chat about the importance of chimneys in an urban landscape! - Remember?
Just to let you know how much I enjoyed your Meikle Seggie exhibition in Axolotl Gallery. Gorgeous drawings! Really inspirational stuff.
Having lived in Milnathort for many years I'm one of the few people around who knows where M Seggie is, and just how fabulous the views are from that vantage point.
Keep up the excellent work and keep inspiring the rest of us.

best wishes,
Robin

I was thinking of you yesterday when John Byrne visited for dinner, and was re-dedicating the caricature he drew of you on Blockfriars St stationery way back in 1991. (His signature had faded over the years).

I woke up this morning, and suddenly remembered it's your birthday today!
Richard Illingworth

Hi Richard, we met briefly on a train from Edinburgh to lockerbie a few weeks ago. ( iwas the other Richard! ) We shared some stories and you left me with one thought...you said " you are an artist" . This has proven to be a cause for many changes in my thought process and i wonder why i am not using my arts degree to full use. I have led a very different life from many others and have tried to contact you via phone to thank you and to see if you require any assistance with events etc in the future. Thanks again for our chat...the wheels have started turning again. All the very best to you and yours,
Richard Illingworth

I was at the 'strategy gets art' show in 1970, with my friend Aiistair Park, (who I think was at college in your days) spent a day there, shook hands with Beuys. Sat through his remarkable performance when he gathered pieces of jelly from the walls of the studio. A very memorable day. I still have the large catalogue here in Spain.

Marvelous stuff.
I'm not sure I've ever really done justice to the thoughts and discussions he provoked in my work as an architect, but the inspiration endures and that is a wonderful thing.
